I was shopping for celery to add to my raw veggie smoothies one day; and I saw that the farmer’s market was out of organic celery. I stood there trying to remember if celery was one of the dirty dozen that contains a lot of pesticides. As synchronicity would have it, there was a woman talking to another person about how celery was one of the dirty dozen! I don’t eat everything organic, but I was juicing to detox and definitely didn’t want extra chemicals. So for those of you who also may need a refresher, and those who may not know, here is a list of the fruits and vegetables that contain the greatest concentration of pesticides. One would benefit the most from buying these produce organically, whenever possible … or grow them yourself and save some money!
At the top of the dirty list:
Apples, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, cucumbers, grapes, peaches, blueberries, lettuce, kale, spinach, collard greens (green leafy), hot peppers, coffee, wine and fatty meats.
Considered clean (fewer pesticides):
Onions, pineapples, avacodo, asparagus, mango, papaya, eggplant, domestic cantelope, cabbage, watermelon, sweet potatoes, grape fruit, mushrooms.
